Your CrossFit Story – Krista

Krista, 45

How did you get into CrossFit?

I fell in love with Crossfit back in 2012. At the time, my husband was deployed overseas for the U.S. military. With 5 kids at home I was looking for an outlet for my stress.

Early one morning I heard noise coming from a neighbor’s garage and I decided to check it out.

My neighbor had just received his Crossfit Level 1 trainer certification and after my first workout I was hooked.

I loved it so much that even when I hurt my back I would go to the 5:30 am workouts and just watch!

What brought you to CrossFit Four Horsemen?

Just prior to moving to Germany 4 years ago I was hospitalized for Rhabdomyolsis. I spent 4 days in the hospital. This experience really affected my mind, spirit and confidence. I took a break from Crossfit but have recently felt a strong desire to get back to the sport that I love. I heard about CrossFit Four Horsemen through different military Facebook pages. From the minute I came back I knew I was home.

How long have you been doing CrossFit and what did you do before CrossFit?

I’m just getting back into Crossfit. I finshed the On-Ramp class in March and have been attending Weightlifting and WOD classes since. Before Crossfit I swam, biked and ran half-marathons. I also love to hike.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement? What’s your least favorite CrossFit movement?

My favorite Crossfit movement is the squat. During my On-Ramp training I was introduced to Slam balls and I really like them too. (Maybe because there is a squat involved) I don’t think there are any movements that I dislike. I just haven’t gained the confidence to enjoy them yet.

What‘s your advice for CrossFit rookies?

Believe in yourself and your abilities! Keep going. It only gets better!

How did you feel after your first WOD?

Relieved and proud!

What were your goals when joining CrossFit? What‘s your current goal?

When I first heard of Crossfit I was just trying something new. I had no idea of all the benefits that would come as a result. My current goal is to get back into shape and enjoy the process. I want to stay active no matter my age.

What or who is/was the biggest motivator/inspiration?

My biggest motivator is my fellow Crossfitters. We’re all in this together! I convinced my friend Cari to join with me and shes also been a great support.

What achievements through CrossFit have you recognized in daily life?

I can do hard things! I’ve also noticed I have better posture. Even though Crossfit sometimes makes me cry it also makes me incredibly happy.

What is your greatest achievement in the gym so far?

Showing up! The best workout starts with showing up.

What’s your goal for 2019?

To keep showing up. To improve my weightlifting technique. To keep my shoulders back and have fast elbows!

If you could create a WOD called ‘Your Name’ what would it be?

Bear Complex with Slam Balls

What do you do outside the box? What’s your job? Do you have another Hobby?

I’m a military wife and mom of 5. In addition to taking care of my family I’m very active in my Church. I love the opportunities I’ve had to travel while being stationed here in Germany. I was born and raised in Alaska so my happy place is anything outdoors!

Do you have anything to add? Feedback, wishes – everything is highly welcome!

I’ve learned so much since joining and I appreciate the encouragement and excellent instruction from Mike and Eva! I also love the supportive and friendly atmosphere in the box. My only regret is not joining earlier since I move back to the states in June. But I will take with me positive memories and better technique!
